-How old was your child when he/she started at Prospect Academy?
- Our daughter Jane was 3 yo when she joined. And we were under no pressure to put her in daycare, but recognized the need to develop social & independence skills.
-What was your biggest fear/ concern at that time?
- We had several. First, she is a very gentle soul and we did not want to break the invisible bond between us by joining just any daycare, which (in most cases) demanded a "turn around and leave" approach from the parent. We felt that it's a cruel way of treating our child, and wanted a more understanding approach. Our other concern was Jane picking up English in order to be ready for school.
-What was in your opinion the biggest surprise after your child started participating in our program?
How quickly Jane became more and more independent. We were very happy that we were allowed to slowly let her get used to the new place, people, routine. It took 5 months before our daughter said: "Bye, mommy" in the morning, but we preserved that connection I mentioned above. Furthermore, she picked up some English, some German and we are waiting to see what else she'll surprise us with in the coming year.
-What is in your opinion your child's biggest accomplishment?
- Jane has become more brave, more secure, more social and more independent. We love to see that is still the same person, just more grown up. Also, we love that she speaks Russian really well.
-As a parent what have you learned during this time?
- We have learned that our focus had to switch. Instead of stressing out about Jane picking up English, we should have focused on developing her social skills. We realized that once she is fully social, capable of sharing, playing with others, she will find a way to speak.
